iOS gives you a set of default, preloaded apps you can use to browse the web, set alarm, etc. However you might already be using one of the many alternatives available on the Play Store. Why not just hide these useless stock apps and make Springboard a cleaner place to manage apps.
You can also use the trick to hide photos momentarily. Just hide the stock photo app before handing over your device to someone and restore it once you have it back. So lets have a look at how we can hide the stock apps on an iOS device.
Hiding Stock Apps on iPhone, iPad and iPod
1. To get started, open Safari on your device and navigate to Rag3Hack homepage. You don’t need a jailbroken device but I am not so sure about the firmware the hack works for. I can confirm that it’s working on iOS 6 but you might have to try and see for rest of the firmware. Once you open the Rag3Hack homepage, you will see a link Hide Apps no Jailbreak. Tap on it to continue.
2. On he next page, tap the button Add to Passbook. This will open a new page which will ask you for the confirmation that you would like to add the card to your wallet.
3. After you have added the card press the home button to navigate to Springboard and tap on the Wallet app to launch it. When you launch the app, you will find the card you just added in there. You must now tap the small “i†button located in the bottom-right corner of the card.
4. The card will now give you the list of apps you can hide along with a web link below it. So let’s say you want to hide the stock Photo app, look for Photo in the list and tap on the link that’s below it.
5. This will open up the Safari browser again and will ask you to download an application. The download will not be successful but the icon of the particular app will change to download mode. Tap on the Done button when the installation fails.
6. Now when you long tap on Springboard to get all the app in “jiggle mode†you will see the delete sing on the app you tried to download the file from. You can go ahead and delete it.
Don’t worry! The app will not be deleted permanently and as soon as your iOS device reboots, it will be restored.
Conclusion
This method can be used on a non jailbroken phone but as it’s only temporary, you will have to repeat the steps every time you wish to hide the particular stock app. Still the trick is a treat taking in account that it can be used on all the iOS devices out there.
